I asked Lucah's owner & breeder Caroline Tobin to describe what it was like having Lucah as a family member for over 10 years - this is what she had to say:
"Reading over your questions brought back so many fond memories of the Lucah Man. He was the sweetest and gentlest of dogs. His size made him an attraction everywhere we went, and when people were able to come up to pet him at shows, he made many new friends for our breed. One of my proudest moments with him, occurred at a dog show while watching Groups with Lucah. A family came up behind us and was commenting the huge dog at my feet. I turned around and saw what I thought at the first instant was a very old man. I quickly realized it was a child with Progeria. By then, Lucah had gotten up to meet them, and I wondered if he would recognized the person as a child. A second later I saw his “Oh Boy kids” tail wag and I knew all was well. The family came by many times to pet their big dog during the rest of the show.

He loved his toys (something I see in his daughter Sunshine). Happiness for Lucah was a new toy. He always picked one to take to bed with him at night.  I have many a picture of him cuddled up with a toy. His daughter Molly was much the same way.

Lucah never met a stranger. He was our meet and greet dog for anyone that wanted to meet a Mastiff up close and personal. Even when we travelled across the US to the Bucks and Trenton dog shows (a 4600 km trip each way!), he would spend hours meeting people at the show before going in the ring in the afternoon and showing his heart out.

If you had a small dog or fearful one, you could put him next to Lucah to get over those fears.  He never chased a cat, squirrel or skunk (unlike his brother Riles).  He was good with puppies and adults of all sexes.  

I think most of Lucah, as the best companion anyone could ask for. The dog shows were the frosting on the cake. I always said he wasn’t the most handsome male in his litter, but he stole my heart from the beginning. Lucah finished his championship a few months past age 2. Considering I was showing his brothers Rio and Chaucer at the same time, and usually turned him over to someone else to take back in the Winners class, I’m surprised it didn’t take longer! He was shown and finished in the Bred By class and was invited to Eukanuba where he took an Award of Excellence (Merit). He was the 2nd of 5 to finish that year from the litter of 10 putting his dam in the MCOA Mastiff Hall of Fame and winning her the Brood Bitch Collar Award for 2004. Lucah enjoyed showing, though he thought shows were mostly for meeting people!

Lucah truly taught me what a confident dog should be, and I see much of him in his current kids Sunshine and her brother Patrick."
